Levelers, Levelers, Levelers

Fifteen years of doing this, with five years of using automatic levelers, and here’s where I’m at…

The EQ levelers don’t have the range or strength to be used in cases where they are really needed. So, we do a quick manual leveling job (which typically requires only a single ramp under one corner) and then manually lower the levelers to fine-tune the leveling and keep the coach from rocking.

But the first step is the most important; using a simple bulls-eye level fastened to the dash console (I built a small wedge to mount it on) I’ll spend some time finding the most level part of the site to park on. It’s very common for that to be all that’s required. If not, I try to position the RV so that only a single wheel needs to be raised. It’s much easier to put a ramp under one wheel than it is to start messing around with building a pyramid out of blocks!

Factory Levelers – Equalizer Brand

Levelers – Manual Override

The individual cartridge valves are clustered together on the side of the pump manifold. They are labeled 1 thru 4 (there is one for each jack). Locate the screws recessed in the end of the stem on the appropriate cartridge valve(s). Using a 1/8” allen wrench, turn the screw(s) clockwise until seated in.

The pump may or may not have a DV2 valve on the opposite side of the manifold. If it does, use a 1/8 inch allen wrench, turn the allen screw clockwise until seated in.

Remove the foil sticker from the end of the motor. Place the drill with the 1/4 inch allen driver bit on the manual override shaft located at the end of the motor.

To retract: Run the drill in the counter‐clockwise direction at 2000 r.p.m. (minimum). To extend: Run the drill in the clockwise direction at 2000 r.p.m. (minimum).

✷ Caution ✷

Following manual override operation, failure to return all valves to normal position may result in one or more jacks drifting down from their retracted (stowed) position. For cartridge valves, rotate the center screw fully counter‐clockwise.

Levelers – Resetting the Null Point

Level is already preset in the factory. Operation under low voltage can wipe the null point and cause the levelers to behave erratically.

If you can manually operate the levelers but they don’t auto-level, this would be an indication that the null point needs to be reset.

Make sure coach is level

Press and hold Auto Level button

Tap Power button

When beeping starts, release the Auto Level button

This resets what the leveling system considers to be level

Levelers – Hard Reset (not confirmed)

When all lights on the control panel are lit and the levelers are non-responsive, it’s necessary to reset the system by pulling the fuse (located near the propane tank) and then re-inserting it.

There are restrictions regarding when they can be used on sloping surfaces (when they are most needed 🙂 ) and I need to figure out what tools to carry in case of problems. (I saw in passing that a power drill is needed to use them manually.)
