Bicycles

This morning, there was another post about stolen e-bikes, this time at a Mercedes dealership following a break-down and tow.

When we carried my bike on the back of our View (and continued to, even after one nice bike was stolen) it was something that was always on the back of my mind. It made me reluctant to stop anywhere that we couldn’t keep an eye on the bike.

When I got an electric bike, I started carrying it in the overhead compartment. It eliminated the bike-theft concern but also kept me from using the bike spontaneously. (When we’re in places where we can’t let the dogs run, the bike is a good way to get them some quick exercise.)

Years ago, it was tough to find a lightweight electric bike, but they are becoming more common now. The latest and greatest is probably the new DJI (same as the drone company) Amflow electric mountain bike, which weighs the same as my bike but has full power instead of just pedal-assist.

A folding bike is a good solution, and a non-electric one can fit in an exterior hatch, but it’s tough to carry a folding e-bike without it being in the middle of things.

Having an RV with a garage is probably the only truly practical solution, with carrying it inside the View, running a close second.
